Project Reflection
- I grew as a digital artist as I was learning many pieces along the way. Before this, I had worked with filming videos for documentaries once before. Through this project I was able to greatly expand the skills I developed in the past, by using what I had developed before. I also learned and was able to apply many new skills, such as using lighting, angle, and film composition, many of which I had no knowledge of before. Though many of these didn’t get a chance to really be showed in the documentary, I used film angle, lighting and rule of thirds all together to create the interview piece, and these made it into most of the photos I was unable to use.
- Circular motion can be applied in a Space Settlement to create artificial gravity, using centripetal force. When something starts spinning in Space due to Newton’s first law it will spin forever, meaning no more energy is required to spin it other than the initial force. Applying Newton’s first law after initial boost a spacecraft can travel indefinitely through space without fuel. Newton’s second and third laws also mean it is much more difficult to build a space settlement and to transport it into space, as you need an exceptionally high amount of fuel to get all of those materials into space. Center of Mass applies because in order to maintain consistent artificial gravity it must be a general ring shape, with an entire settlement rotating at an even distance from one point.
- My greatest strength during this project was refinement. I used refinement by trying to make sure my documentary was as good as I could make it for the Exhibition. I had to add last minute voiceovers, do last minute cuts, and add last minute B-Roll, all improving the quality of my project greatly. This was all because I took the time to refine it all at the end. I also used refinement in the camerawork piece of the project, having to retake photos that didn’t look good as well as entirely redoing the interview because of the camera angle and composition. Originally when I filmed the interview my group and most of my peers said it was fine, but I believed I could do better so I refined it, changing the angle to better show the subject, the composition to better exemplify what I learned in Digital Arts, and background because the original green screen background didn’t work.
- My greatest area for growth during this project was Effective Communication. I had trouble here because I failed to properly communicate with my unproductive group member. My failure to communicate led them to spend much of their time goofing around. As well as that aspect, I failed to really show that group member that there was work they could do. As I didn’t do this there was a mutual failure of communication, with neither party trying to communicate. This greatly decreased the efficiency of my group work.
