Create your Own Art Project
Project Description:
In this project I did each small Photoshop, of course it started with thinking of the idea of what to make each time. The next step was to collect all the images I used and figure out what tools I would use to combine them. To make the two traditional Photoshop designs I used the quick selection tool alongside filters. For the two colorization I used adjustments to allow color and then used the replace color tool too add color.

Project Reflection:
I chose to make the tradition Photoshop pieces because I've always enjoyed just messing around in Photoshop. I chose to attempt colorization because I've always been interested in history and wanted to try colorizing myself, so now I think I have the opportunity to work with that more in the future. The largest challenge I encountered in this project was finding appropriate colors for the colorization. I can use this in the future as I can say I am proficient at Photoshop.

Understanding Scale and Proportion
Project Reflection
The goal of this project was to utilize foreground, middle ground, and background to show scale and dimensions. Foreground are the items in a picture closer to the camera, background the furthest away and middle ground in the middle. Scale is the size that something appears to be based on it's placement in the foreground, middle ground, or background. I decided to use this to mess with the size of real world items, making them appear much larger than normal. For example I took what was normally a small flower and scaled it so it appeared much larger, as well as putting it into the middle ground as opposed to the foreground to accomplish this. I also messed with the scale of the Zeppelin, making it look absolutely massive, by making it transcend from the background to the middle ground. I found zip files useful as they take up less storage and therefor are easy to send to others. The only problem I found is that they are difficult to extract.
Photoshop Tutorials
Description 1I had two different Photoshop jobs of the original. In the first after I was just experimenting with distortion using the liquefy tool In after #2 I used the paintbrush tool to redo skin tone and hair color, then distorted the facial features using liquefy.

Description 2This one was just getting more practice in using the paintbrush tool to redo skin tone and hair color to more of an extreme than before. I spent less time on this one and I don't think it looks as good.

Art As communication
|
Project Reflection1: I think I met the project rationale here greatly. My evidence for this is the wolf drawing which I made a digitally colored version of and a painted one. I think I met the project rationale by applying both studio art skills and Digital Art skills. I also went beyond what many people did and created two separate projects that fill both of these roles individually. I drew one, and digitally remade it, and painted the other version.
2: I believe art is something that is created for no purpose of survival. It is created purely for the enjoyment of the beholder, to tell a story, or simply because it can be made. Art is not created for the purpose of making a profit, art is created from the mind of an artist. It is the human mind projected onto whatever medium the artist chooses. 3 and 4: The context of art matters because it can determine why it was made. A painting made by a soldier in wartime, such as the works of Otto Dix, are going to have a different context and purpose than the works of someone like Leonardo Da Vinci. One is going to tell the story of those that saw the worst of humanity, and one is created to show the beauty of the world. It is all about the context in which the two were created. |
Letter Portrait
This project served as a short introduction to the Digital Arts class. This was done at the beginning of the year, within the first couple of weeks. To create this I searched around the school for different ways to show the letters of my name in nature. I then put the pictures of those into Photoshop and used various filters and tools to create more unity.
